Dead Plan – You’ll Want To Check Out This..

It will continue to amaze me how the internet permits us to truly be a worldwide society. Particularly in the search for new interesting music. Just sitting at my laptop I can cruise across the world paying attention to the sounds of various countries with each click. A recent YouTube rabbit hole led me to discover another addition to my shoegaze alt-rock playlist. Let us introduce you to Repeatedive.

The indie rock band hails from your subtropical island nation of Taipei, Taiwan. Using their beginnings in May of 2016 the collaboration of Alan Yang (Guitar/Vocals), Larry Chen (Bass) Baron Jan (Drums) has become called Dead Plan. The young band began playing a mix of Nirvana covers and punk influenced originals at high school events and underwent some trials, tribulations, or even a hiatus. The aim was always the same. Make fun music for your underdog, and anyone who has felt on the losing side of life.

Now Repeatedive is back using a moving piece within their new song “In My Heart, I Only Say Fu.ck This World.” I am just pretty sure it translates exactly how you expect it could. The mellow guitar strumming mixes using a straight beat that puts your mind relaxed. The vocals continue this theme despite having the angst-ridden lyrics.

The slow build involves an energetic climax across the 3 minute mark of the song. Repeatedive grabs your attention and gets your blood pumping. Those punk influences show us the way to a complete sonic experience that fills the void in a dreary day.

Damn. I really like me some Repeatedive. For real. Articulately describing themselves as… “…a passionate/apathetic indie rock band from Taipei, Taiwan, the overcast capital of any subtropical island nation…”

We originally crossed paths with this satiating, shoe-gaze rock trio back in August for their deliciously bipolar alt-rock number, In My Heart I Believe That Fu.ck The World, the most popular single using their 7th Floor EP. Shortly thereafter, we dldath the pleasure of reviewing front-man Alan Yang’s solo project, Lounge Act Jam-Teen’s Last Straw; a digital project we found to get, “…Authentic. Heartfelt. Gutsy.” Still comprising Alan Yang (guitar, vocals), Larry Chen (bass), and Baron Jan(drums), this passionately apathetic trio has recently released their brand new 3-track EP, If Only I Understood; and, our company is no less enthused.

Showing a sweet, tender, and arguably optimistic side (which you might not have been aware this trio possessed), Luna Is On Our Side, is instantly reminiscent of 1994’s Pisces Iscariot through the Smashing Pumpkins. Delightfully digitally delayed, dreamy, ambient chords get wickedly juxtaposed using a wild type of distortion within this ode to Luna.

Showing serious musical vision, the crew ends this worthy little project with, Dead Plan, an up-all-night road-tune with drive, focus and octane. Think: Carolina Liar meets Jimmy Eat World. It’s subtly awesome.

Deluxe contrast. Satisfyingly angsty. No explanation required. Repeatedive’s latest EP, I Wish I Understood, is yet another adventurous, no-holds-barred, everything-on-the-table, perfectly rough-around-the-edges piece of post-grunge indie-rock. Singer-songwriter & front-man Alan Yang has serious vision and talent, and writes & sings with all the anxious subtlety similar to early Billy Corgan. He’s brave, and he gets better with age. We’re looking forward to their next project. If you’re into shoe-gaze style 90’s grunge, PLEASE give this a listen. (Taiwan’s coming, ya’ll.)

Tune in to Repeatedive’s latest EP, I Wish I Understood, and connect with their social media platforms. Please support music video by visiting them online, and playing, downloading, and purchasing their music, or attending a live show! And, as usual, be grateful for supporting real music!
